Telecom Italia creates new Quad-play service

Telecom Italia has announced that it is to launch a new quad-play service. The service dubbed ‘Unico’ is based on IP and broadband technologies.
Unico allows users using the mobile Unico either via fixed line or mobile network, as well as surfing the internet and watching Alice home TV programming.
The Unico service uses a Nokia E65 handset, with the service it can act both as a portable mobile phone as well as a cordless phone in the users home.
When at home the Telcom Italia’s dual-mode service allows the Unico to distinguish between calls made to the fixed line and calls made to the mobile.
When out of range of the home Wi-fi connection, the mobile reverts to standard mobile service ( via UMTS)
Besides the phone service, the quad-play service also allows internet access as well as Alice TV content, and Telecom Italia’s TV which features over one hundred channels as well as numerous films, and on demand programming.
