42% of China connected to mobile networks

By the end of January 2008 the number of people subscribed to mobile communications services in China stood at 555.77 million, 41.6% of the country’s population.
This number represents a 1.55% increase compared to December 2007, and an 18.9% increase compared to January 2007.
These subscribers sent a total of 54.64 billion SMS messages during January, an average of 3.17 per user every day.
Subscribers to fixed line telecommunications services in China totalled 363.95 million, 27.8% of the country’s population.
