Compal invited to bid for Sony Ericsson order
by David Masters
March 14, 2008
Compal Communications have been approached by Sony Ericsson requesting that they submit a bid to produce five of Sony’s low-cost and mid-range ODM handsets. The handsets are to be launched by Sony next year.
In the second half of last year Sony replaced Compal as their main supplier of low-cost ODM handsets, moving to Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS). However, CMCS have already received 2009 orders for 30 million handsets from Motorola. Sony Ericsson’s other ODM handset supplier, Arima Communications, is not accepting orders for low-cost handsets.
