The rights to webcast the 2008 Major League Baseball (MLB) season in Taiwan have been won by Chunghwa Telecom (CHT). The exclusive rights mean that CHT will webcast all 165 MLB games this year.
CHT made the announcement following an agreement between Elta Technology and MLB Advanced Media, who are in charge of distribution rights for MLB games.
CHT is a major shareholder of Elta Technology, who specialise in providing audio and video content for distribution to its clients.
CHT will broadcast the live MLB games via three platforms: multimedia on demand (MOD), its online mobile service platform, emome, and its ISP, HiNet.
In other news, CHT has offered its 3G subscribers discounts on voice calls and subsidies for the purchase of 3G handsets. CHT aims to have 3.3 million 3G subscribers by the end of 2008.
