T-Mobile and Starbucks settle Wi-Fi dispute

by David Masters
June 13, 2008

Last week T-Mobile USA filed a lawsuit against Starbucks for breach of contract.

Starbucks recently decided to switch the wi-fi provider in its US coffee shops from T-Mobile to AT&T.

To keep T-Mobile happy through the period of transition, the Seattle-based global coffee brand signed a contract with T-Mobile that gave the company the right to ’sell, market and promote its services’ in all Starbucks stores until every store had switched to AT&T.

However, T-Mobile argued that an AT&T promotion using Starbucks reward cards violated the contract, and filed a lawsuit.

A spokesperson for Starbucks has now revealed that the companies are working towards a final settlement, the terms of which will not be disclosed.
