Telecoms recession overlooks HTC

by David Masters

Worldwide recession has hit the telecoms industry hard, with many vendors reporting a fall in sales and a corresponding decline in revenues.

Taiwan-based handset manufacturer High Tech Computer (HTC), however, has bucked the trend, seeing massive growth over the summer with reported August revenues at NT$12.71 billion (US$398.4 million).

This is an increase of 11.1% compared to July, and up 33.6% on year.

HTC’s total revenue for the period January-August 2008 is NT$91.47 billion, a 32.5% increase compared to the same period in 2007.

Target revenue for the third quarter is NT$38 billion. The company expects to reach this figure because its flagship phone – the HTC Touch Diamond – will be launched in the US very soon.
